Austin's Arboretum Neighborhood

Austin's Arboretum neighborhood is located in northwest Austin, an area some South Congress residents joke is more like suburban Dallas than laid-back Austin. Austin's Arboretum is an area of the city that offers ample upscale shopping opportunities, swift access to Austin's high-tech employers, plenty of restaurants, and modern apartments and condos.

The Arboretum is a located along the intersection of Capital of Texas Hwy and 183, less than five minutes from MoPac. Many Arboretum residents work at high-tech campuses and research facilities in northwest Austin. IBM has a large facility located near 183 and MoPac, and the University of Texas JJ Pickle Research Campus is across the street from IBM.

The Arboretum is named from the open-air shopping mall, The Arboretum, at the southwest corner of Capital of Texas Highway 183. The Arboretum retailers include Banana Republic, Pottery Barn, Barnes and Noble and Nine West among others. Nearby shops also include Saks Fifth Avenue and Crate and Barrel. Some of Austin's most well-known restaurants such as Z-Tejas, Eddie V's Edgewater Grille and Manuel's, well-known for its Downtown branch, all have Arboretum branches that inject the funky Austin lifestyle into this northern Austin neighborhood. Austin's hometown favorite Amy's Ice Cream has a store in the Arboretum, and Whole Foods has a grocery store in Gateway Plaza.

Great Hills Golf Club offers top-notch courses for members and there is a quiet, natural retreat at Bull Creek District Park along Capital of Texas Highway, south of the Arboretum. The park has hike and bike trails, volleyball courts, picnic facilities and a leash free dog zone.
