Austin's Enfield Neighborhood

The Enfield Historic District in Old West Austin encompasses a wide area that winds between Shoal Creek and MoPac from 13th to 35th Streets, northwest of Downtown Austin. Austin's Enfield is a well-preserved collection of early-to-mid 20th century real estate. Much of the real estate in Enfield and Old West Austin was designed by prominent architects and reflect architectural styles popular from the 1850s through the 1950s.

Enfield and Old West Austin act as a transition between Downtown Austin and Hyde Park to the east, and Tarrytown to the west. Old West Austin is bordered by West 24th Street on the north and Enfield Road on the south. Lamar Boulevard serves as the east border and MoPac Boulevard is the west border. Enfield is conveniently located five minutes from Downtown Austin and is accessible to IH-35 and MoPac through Lamar and Enfield Road. Like Tarrytown, the area does not contain many shops or restaurants. However, a five-minute drive to shopping centers in Hyde Park or Downtown Austin provide ample venues for errands and grocery shopping. Austin's Enfield is very popular for its proximity to Downtown Austin and the University of Texas campus. Shoal Creek runs through the heart of Enfield and provides Enfield real estate owners with many hike and bike trails.

Old Enfield is home to many of the oldest colonial style real estate in Austin, including the historic Pease Mansion, built by Governor's Mansion architect Abner Cook. The landmark is now privately owned and undergoing restoration and serves as an Enfield centerpiece. It is one of the few properties left in Austin that predates the Civil War.
