Austin's Tarrytown Neighborhood

austin_tarrytownAustin's Tarrytown is considered by many Austinites to be the city's most prestigious address and it certainly is where many downtown professionals, executives and a healthy mix of college students reside. Tarrytown is the area bounded by 35th Street to the north, Enfield to the south, MoPac to the east and Lake Austin Blvd. to the west. Tarrytown is an area of gracious real estate, small bungalows, old churches and quiet parks.

Although there are not an abundant number of businesses and restaurants in Tarrytown, the neighborhood has easy access to Downtown Austin, IH-35 and MoPac via Enfield and 35th Street. Most Tarrytown real estate owners find groceries at the nearby Randalls on Lake Austin Blvd. or take the short trip to Central Market on 38th and Lamar.

The banks of Lake Austin are found along Tarrytown's western edge with Mayfield Preserve, a 22 acre park that is part nature preserve with lily ponds, tame deer and peacocks. The park is nearby Laguna Gloria, a Mediterranean mansion built in 1915 that is now part of the Austin Museum of Art. Classes and exhibits are held on the grounds. Reed Park, in the heart of Tarrytown, is where Tarrytown real estate owners go to swim, hike and bike, relax and picnic. On the southern edge of Tarrytown is Lions Municipal Golf Course.
