Austin Tourism and Entertainment

Austin Tourism and Entertainment

When it comes to Austin tourism and entertainment, the hardest question to answer may be "Where do I begin?" And that's a good question. With so many options for things to do and ways to enjoy Austin, you could spend years exploring Austin tourism and entertainment, and you would have only just scratched the surface.

Austin's Sixth Street

Sixth Street is Austin's infamous area of bars and night clubs. Though Sixth Street may seem quiet during the day, it's a different place when the sun goes down. On some nights, the city closes Sixth Street to traffic, so only pedestrians and pedicabs are allowed through. It's for good reason, too — Sixth Street attracts people of all ages, and some travel from other Texas cities to enjoy what it has to offer. Visit Sixth Street at night, and you'll see an interesting mix of people, like college students, artists, dancers, older people and show-goers.

Austin Museums and Art Galleries

It's easy to spend hours enjoying just one of the many Austin museums and art galleries. With art galleries like the Blanton, Austin Museum of Art and the ArtHouse at the Jones Center, there are no shortages of art in Austin. As for museums, downtown Austin has quite a few — especially along Congress Avenue. The Mexic-Arte Museum, Volitant Gallery and Austin Museum of Art are just a few you'll find in downtown Austin on Congress Avenue.

Austin's Congress Avenue Bat Colony

Austin tourism and entertainment wouldn't be complete without a mention of Austin's Congress Avenue Mexican free-tailed bat colony, which is actually the largest in America. Hundreds of people gather at sunset to watch as the bats emerge from their homes under the Congress Avenue bridge over Town Lake and fly away in search of dinner (lots and lots of insects). The best time for Austin bat watching is during summer.

Austin Tourism and Entertainment for Kids

Austin tourism and entertainment for kids might even be just as enjoyable for adults. Places like the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum and the Austin Children's Museum are perfect places to take the kids. Both educational and fun, Austin's Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum even has an IMAX theater that plays entertaining movies on its gigantic screen. Austin Children's Museum is in downtown Austin and offers kids plenty of activities that encourage them to learn and appreciate art.
